Would you like learn hands-on skills essential for wilderness survival and exploration? Bushcraft is the

study of surviving and thriving in the wild. This course includes outdoor and wilderness skills like

kayaking, archery, axe throwing, shelter building, fire starting, orienteering , fishing, and foraging, along

with knots, woodcraft, and bladed tools.

Class Duration: Late August - Mid-May

Ages: 7th -12th grade

Why Venture Bushcraft?

Value: Action Sports Bushcraft obtains group discounts for skills like kayaking and archery, and the course includes all necessary supplies and tools, including kayaking and archery gear, fishing pole and supplies, a hatchet, shelter-building materials, and a bushcraft manual.

Explore: Learners get to experience many aspects of bushcraft over six three-week segments. Segments include all seasons in multiple locations. Learners will be introduced to kayaking, wilderness survival, axe handling, archery, bushcraft techniques, and fishing.

Quality Coaching: Your instructor has experience in all aspects of bushcraft and outdoor exploration. He’s also a Michigan-certified teacher and is trained in wilderness first aid.

Community: You’ll go on a quest with your fellow classmates, from kayaking a winding river to creating sturdy shelters to handling axes and building fires. Along the way, you’ll explore common interests, work as a team, and learn hands-on skills.

Morning Class (7th-12th grade)

Tuesday: 11am-1pm


Basic Yearly Schedule:

First Semester:

Sessions 1-3: Kayaking

Sessions 4-6: Shelter building

Sessions 7-9: Axe handling

Second Semester:

Sessions 10-12: Archery

Sessions 13-15: Winter survival

Sessions 16-18: Fishing and foraging

All Bushcraft classes follow an every-other week schedule with a few exeptions for weather/holidays. For specifics on dates, review the 2023/24 class syllabus below. (Note: as this is a new class for 2023/24, a few of the locations are marked TBD. If you register for the class you will be updated when those locations are finailzed)

Class space is limited to a maximum of 12 students. Classes with fewer than 6 students will be cancelled and those participants will be invited to join another class time.

Cancelation Policy: If registration is canceled before July 1 2023, you will be issued a full refund with the exception of a $20 administrative fee. IF paying via partnership/virtual school, cancelations after July 1 2023 will not recieve a refund. IF paying the full tuition price out of pocket, cancelations after July 1 2023 will receive half of tuition refunded.
